Here is what all our experience has
shown us - and why
Electronic Surveillance and Database the vandal incidents
-
Electronic Surveillance: Of all the companies that market
wares to do this, only one makes the grade in ease or use and cost.
Tripwire covert cameras are unlike any other system. These units will
covertly monitor locations of high graffiti instances and when the camera
system is tripped, it sends text and photos to a blackberry or other smart
phone that is normally carried by a graffiti investigator. Notification is
normally within 30 seconds and provides the investigator the location
information and photographic evidence of who or what is there. In the case
of vandals, you have a description in case arriving units find these
vandals near the location. Other similar systems run over $5000 to $7500
each, But Tripwire is unique in what it does, and for only $2500 each,
including case, IR lights and IR triggers.
-
Database: There are several graffiti databases currently
on the market, but only one that offers the system free of charge to try
out for a whole year, and only one that also tracks and maps over 30
different crimes. GRIP database was designed by graffiti experts,
including law enforcement and experience analyst individuals. Grip took on
the task of providing a product that did not take advantage of cities or
agencies, and only charges a minimum cost in order to cover the cost of
server and maintenance. Only $850 per year and first year is free to try
out. It tracks and maps over 30 different crimes, exceeds federal
guidelines, is 100% web based so data can be viewed by any agency that is
subscribed (worldwide) No Server to buy, no internal network security
issues as the server is not at your agency. You own the data, you can
export it at any time. It has a citizen reporting feature that lets you be
"COPS" friendly and allow local citizens to send in crime reports as well
as possible crime tips. It does GPS positioning or address geocoding and
they are adding a feature to allow using a Trimble phone to do field
uploads direct to the database. Company will also do photo analyst and
data entry for you, for an additional cost. When a vandal is arrested, you
can quickly pull up all cases for this vandal in order to prosecute on all
incidents, to increase restitution to the victims and also allow other
surrounding agencies to close their own cases by using this arrest
information.
Using these two systems combined will quickly reduce
your graffiti vandalism problem
